Many modern buildings are designed in such a way that they are easily adaptable to the needs of different tenants. Room divisions are flexible, installations are movable and interior fittings, walls and ceilings are easy to modify. Moveable partitions can either butt up against the suspended ceiling or break through it. In both cases sound can pass from room to room through the ceiling void.
